The legal world generates a massive volume of documentation that needs to be consulted strategically and promptly on a continuous basis. For legal professionals, efficiency in searching and accessing legal documents is a critical factor that directly impacts daily operations.
Legis, a leading company in legal services, has a vast database of court rulings categorized at the paragraph level. However, their current filter-based search system is limiting and does not provide an organic and intuitive user experience comparable to general search engines.
Legis faced the challenge of developing an advanced search engine that would significantly improve the user search experience. The goal was to implement a similarity search system at the paragraph and full document level, tailored to the legal terminology of Colombia's high courts and aligned with the thematic categories of their own thesaurus. This system needed to allow users to perform free-text queries and receive precise and relevant results.
The project required several key functionalities: connecting and analyzing the database of tagged rulings, implementing a tailored document vectorization model, and deploying a REST API to evaluate the free-text search engine. Additionally, the system needed to bias the results according to Legis's own record classification thesaurus.
Foqum adapted its semantic search engines to create a comprehensive solution for Legis, focused on developing a similarity search engine that facilitates the consultation of legal documents.
The solution began with the connection and analysis of the tagged rulings database, followed by the implementation of a document vectorization model tailored to the specific terminology of the corpus. The similarity search engine was implemented on the corpus of records, developing a full document relevance model based on record-level distance.
The system adjusted the results according to the specific categories and terms used by Legis, and a REST API was deployed to evaluate the free-text search engine.
With this solution, Legis can now offer an advanced search system that significantly improves the experience for legal professionals, allowing them to perform free-text queries and obtain relevant and precise results. This tool not only optimizes workflow but also increases accessibility and efficiency in the management of legal information.
